Heritage Village

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Dubai Heritage and Diving Villages are built to acquaint tourists with the region’s traditional arts, customs and architecture. Shindagha is living testimony of the government’s respect of Dubai’s past.

Exhibitions in the Diving Village illuminate Dubai’s historical significance as a pearling nation while potters and weavers practice their traditional crafts at barasti stalls set up in the Dubai Heritage Village.

It’s particularly lively during the Dubai Shopping Festival, when you can enjoy a host of demonstrations ranging from traditional cookery training to desert life exhibitions, and parachuting shows to shipbuilding.

Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House is a historic building and former residential quarters of Saeed bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, former ruler of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The building is located along the Dubai Creek in the locality of Al Shindagha.

At the Heritage Village one can nibble on piping-hot dosas (paper-thin, lentil and flour pancakes) made by burka-clad women, pose with a falconer, sit on a camel or browse around touristy shops and barasti stalls.

It is usually pretty quiet year round, except during Eid celebrations and the Dubai Shopping Festival, when unusual traditional activities such as rifle-throwing competitions bring in the tourists and locals alike.
